As I write this, much of southeastern Missouri is being impacted by severe thunderstorms which will likely include large hail and even some strong tornadoes. Now, Missouri is being warned about potential supercell development early next week.

I have a simple request for Missouri weather. Could you please let us just deal with the storms happening now before you inflict another round of explosive storms next week? Thanks. Unfortunately, the Storm Prediction Center from NOAA doesn't get my messages. They've already issued two convective outlook advisories and both include nearly all of Missouri. This is the advisory area for Monday, May 19, 2025.

But wait, there's more...

This is what Tuesday, May 20, 2025 looks like according to the meteorologists at the Storm Prediction Center.

Here's something important to remember. As of this writing, we're still 3 days away from next Monday. There is a lot that can change between now and then. Even the forecasters at NOAA and the National Weather Service are saying "Storms will be possible farther north across eastern Kansas and western Missouri, but storm intensity is less clear given weaker instability and messier storm mode along the warm frontal zone." There is still a lot of uncertainty about how severe storms might be.

Keep in mind that the advisory area could also be escalated if variables seem to show a more intense event. We're in the typical spring cycle in Missouri where wave after wave of storm systems will give us the chance for severe weather events. Being weather and storm aware is a Missouri state of mind and that isn't changing any time soon.
