9 Things You Can’t Put in Checked Luggage at Missouri Airports
I have lost count of how many times I've gone through the airport in St. Louis in my life, but I'm certain it was too many. Did you know there are items you can never pack in checked luggage in a Missouri airport and many things you'd never expect.
The last time I flew out of the airport in St. Louis was in early 2016 after my mother passed away. I had the misfortune of having connecting flights with not a lot of room for error and had to deal with TSA checkpoints like everyone. I found a helpful guide shared by Allianz Travel that includes many items you are never allowed to pack in checked luggage when you fly through a Missouri airport no matter if it's St. Louis or Kansas City. This is not a conclusive list, but just some that I found a bit odd.
I did a double-take when I saw this one. Specifically, it's British "Christmas Crackers" which contain a tiny bit of gunpowder which obviously disqualifies them from airport luggage.
If you can spray it into the air from a can, it's not allowed in checked luggage, so don't even try it.
If you are tasked with returning the urn containing aunt Betsy, you'll need to not try and accomplish this feat with your luggage. Common sense and decency would also say this is a very bad idea anyway.
Went to the Caribbean and found some swell rum? If it's greater than 70% alcohol, it'll get you in trouble in the luggage area.
We all enjoy the 4th of July, but packing the fireworks in your luggage will not get you a patriotic response from TSA.
Old-school thermometers that contain small amounts of mercury are a no-go in the luggage area. You can't mail them either.
Think it'd be funny to pack some plastic toys that look like grenades or dynamite? That is a body-cavity search waiting to happen.
You can't put coral in your luggage, but some airlines will let you put live lobsters in there. Go figure.
You can take laptops in your carry-on bag and use them on flights (as long as the battery isn't larger than 99w), but you can't pack them in checked in luggage. Any device with a lithium-ion battery is a no-go.
