Missouri Issues Warning about New Supplement that Can Kill You
This will make you wonder how some products end up on shelves where the public can buy them and possibly suffer horrific health effects. Missouri health officials have issued an urgent warning about a new supplement that can potentially kill you.
The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services just issued a bulletin this week warning about a supplement known as 7-OH aka 7-Hydroxymitragynine. They say this supplement is now widely available in Missouri being "marketed as “natural” promoters of alertness and remedies for pain, anxiety, and/or opioid withdrawal".
Why is this a problem for Missouri in particular?
Missouri health officials say "7-OH products marketed and sold in Missouri have a far higher concentration—and therefore far higher potency--than natural kratom". They add that it has 13 times the potency of morphine to opioid receptors. Isolated products in Missouri can cause the following symptoms:
- Nausea and vomiting
- Depression
- Rapid heart rate
- High blood pressure
- Trouble breathing
- Seizures
- Dependence and addiction
- Poisoning
- Death
Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services says they have already had 47 reports of overdoses due to 7-OH products which is nearly double the previous year. They advise contacting the Missouri Poison Center if you have concerns or issues with products like this. I'm always wary of products like this as I've tried many diet supplements over the years some of which had questionable side effects. The bottles always said (paraphrasing) that the FDA does not recognize this as a cure for anything. Frankly, I think the warnings for these type of unverified health products should be more dire. 7-OH is just the latest that seems to need that kind of treatment.
