The American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Marion County kicks off its 2020 fundraising campaign on Tuesday, January 14 from 6 – 9 pm at The Rebel Pig in Palmyra.

A portion of proceeds from any meal purchased that evening will benefit the cause.  The first 100 diners will also receive a cheesecake dessert, compliments of the American Cancer Society.

Two and half million people around the world take part in The Relay For Life.  One of the most successful teams in the country is Palmyra's Flower Children team.  In fact it ranks fifth in the nation for its fundraising efforts.
This year’s Relay For Life event will be held on May 29, 2020 at the Mark Twain Cave Hollow Complex. This Relay is an opportunity to celebrate people who have been touched by cancer, remember loved ones lost, and take action for lifesaving change. Symbolizing the battle waged around the clock by those facing cancer, the event can last up to 24 hours and empowers communities to take a stand against cancer. Since 1985, Relay For Life events have raised nearly $6.5 billion for the American Cancer Society.

A.C.S. estimates that 1 out of 3 people in the US will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. Funds raised at Relay For Life events help the A.C.S. fund and conduct breakthrough research, and gives cancer patients and their families the resources they need, like free places to stay near hospitals, and a live 24/7 helpline for answers and support.
