Where is Illinois on the list of the “Hardest Working” States?
A new ranking of the hardest working states in the US in 2023 has been unveiled and we were quite surprised where Illinois lands on the list, here are the details...
WalletHub has released a list called 2023's Hardest-Working States in America, and the Land of Lincoln is ranked 40th on the list. Illinois ranks well behind its neighboring states like Iowa ranked 12th, Missouri ranked 18th, and Indiana ranked 22nd. How did WalletHub determine these rankings? On their site, they say...
"Americans are hard workers, putting in an average of 1,811 hours per year, according to the World Economic Forum. That’s 470 hours per year more than Germans work...Hard work is key to success, and the people of some states understand that better than others. To determine where Americans work the hardest, WalletHub compared the 50 states across 10 key indicators. They range from average workweek hours to share of workers with multiple jobs to annual volunteer hours per resident."
Illinois ranks so low mainly because it is ranked 40th in the Direct Work Factors category which is comprised of things like average workweek hours, employment rate, and share of households where no adults work.
The bottom of the list (aka the least hard-working states in the country) consists of New Mexico, New York, and West Virginia. While, the top of the list (the hard workers) consists of North Dakota, Alaska, and South Dakota, and I feel like those states being at the top makes sense right?
