Since there have been many truck drivers in my small circle of family and friends over the generations, I tend to try and look out for them. That's why I'm offering some unsolicited advice for my Illinois over-the-road friends. If you can, there are 3 days in November when you should avoid the state of Kentucky if at all possible.

Big thanks to CDL Life for this warning advisory. It's a heads up that Kentucky is out to get you will be doing what they call "three day commercial vehicle crackdown". Here are the exact words from a Kentucky trooper they quote:

"KSP Commercial Vehicle Inspectors will open scale facilities, ensuring commercial drivers follow safety regulations, including hours of service compliance, commercial driver license compliance, medical certification and commercial motor vehicle credentialing"

Translation? If you're driving a semi-tractor trailer, you're likely gonna be talking to some of Kentucky's finest to make sure you're following all the rules. I'm not saying this is a bad idea and I never advocate breaking the law and/or not being compliant. But, I also know from my truck driver family and friends that whenever a state does a "crackdown", that means sometimes unnecessary hassles for commercial drivers.

When is this crackdown in Kentucky happening?

The 3 days that have been declared by Kentucky troopers are November 18 through November 20, 2024.

Since it's very difficult to avoid Kentucky if you're an Illinois driver that has a southern route, use your imagination about how to navigate around the "crackdown". If nothing else, be extra aware that you'll need to have your i's dotted and your t's crossed if you must drive through Kentucky November 18 through November 20.
