Well, Rats – New Map Proves Illinois Has a Sudden Rodent Problem
I think if we're being honest with ourselves, all of us have had to deal with a mouse or two in our lifetime. There is one state that has dealt with more than others and a new map proves that Illinois suddenly has a rodent problem.
I saw this new data shared by Cinch which does a very deep dive with the counties in America that have the biggest issues with rodents. The numbers for Illinois are stunning. These new numbers come from the latest data from the United States Census.
- Percentage of Illinois homes with rodents - 14.3%
- Approximate number of Illinois homes with rodents - 770,060
- Estimated number of residents living with rodents in Illinois - 1,815,049
- Average age of Illinois homes - 1970
- Percentage of Illinois residents that live in a metro area - 86.9%
Why are these rodents such a big problem for Illinois?
Rats and mice can carry hantavirus, leptospirosis, and salmonella. This is especially a problem homes that have children as they are more susceptible to serious complications from the diseases that they carry.
This new census data isn't a complete surprise as Chicago has long had a reputation of being one of the most rat-infested cities in the world.
