Illinois Police Warn Drivers Ahead of Summer Trips
We are now in the season of busy summer travel. That's why the Illinois State Police have issued a stern warning about how plans can go wrong and how to avoid tragedy.
My family took many vacations in Illinois when I was a kid. I vividly remember a trip to many of the Abraham Lincoln historical sites including Salem and, of course, Springfield, Illinois. The Illinois State Patrol knows this is the time of year when those kinds of trips happen which is why they just issued this rather stern warning about summer vacation time travel on their Facebook page.
I've had flat tires and had to do the roadside vehicle fix attempt. It's extremely difficult to get far enough away from the roadway to get out of the driver's side even for a brief time. I guess I'm one of the naive people that assumes most people will slow down and/or move over, but with all of the violators of Scott's Law in Illinois with all of the emergency vehicles that have been hit this year already, that's a dangerous assumption.
Best case scenario if you have summer trip troubles is to get completely away from highways and interstates by taking an exit ramp, but that's not always possible. It may seem like an unnecessary warning, but the Illinois State Police have responded to many tragic accidents whose victims also thought it would never happen to them.
