203 in Illinois Just Found Out They Will Be Jobless in June

As we get closer to the summer months, an alarming number of people are learning they now have an involuntary career change. That just happened to 203 workers in Illinois that just learned they will be jobless by the end of June.

I have had numerous alerts from the Illinois Work Net site lately about WARN notices that have been submitted to the state alerting authorities of an imminent layoff. The newest one just posted is from an event and hospitality company in Chicago.

The Oak View Group at McCormick Place will be laying off 203 with the first layoffs beginning on June 30, 2025. Their official site says they specialize in "premium events, gracious hospitality, imaginative menus, and holistic venue management solutions". There have been no statements posted on the press release part of their site specifying the nature of this layoff notice as of this writing.

One thing to keep in mind (and I hope this is the case for this layoff notice) is a company can reorganize resulting in those being laid off ending up assigned to a different part of the company. The state of Illinois requires notice when a layoff of workers is imminent even in instances like that.
