One of the Top 13 Budget Retirement Spots Is in Illinois
If you're looking for a place to spend your golden years, but you don't have a lot of gold in the bank, perhaps you should consider a small town in Illinois that is now ranked among the 13 most affordable in the nation.
This Illinois town has just over 7,000 people who call it home

This is Sandwich, Illinois which was just declared one of the 13 best places in America to retire on a budget by Cheapism. No offense intended to Illinois as it's a state I've called home several times in my life, but "budget" isn't the word that comes to mind when I think of the Land of Lincoln when it comes to taxes.
Why is Sandwich, Illinois ranked among the most affordable in America now for retirees on a budget?
Sandwich was praised for it's average rent of $1,300 and its small town charm. The fact that Sandwich is close enough to Chicago if you need something important not offered there is also considered a plus. They also said that Illinois' treatment of qualifying retirement income is a plus. That's the kind of economic thinking that is above my pay grade so I'll have to take their word for that.
The bottom line is Sandwich, Illinois was granted inclusion in this budget retirement ranking for being affordable with a small town charm without being situated in the middle of nowhere out of reach of bigger city activities for the older generation. Can't argue with that logic.
