Illinois Grocery Bills Much Higher Than Missouri’s, Report Says
It's not fun trying to keep your family fed and also maintaining survival funds in your bank account these days, but it's worse some places than it is others. I find it interesting that Illinois and Missouri grocery prices vary despite the fact the states are only divided by a river.
The struggle is real when paying for groceries these days thanks to inflation
World Atlas just shared an interesting breakdown of grocery costs per state and the comparison between Missouri and Illinois is interesting. Notice the average grocery bill for Missouri and Illinois each week.
I'm no math genius, but even I understand that there's about a 10% difference between weekly grocery costs depending on if you're shopping in Missouri or Illinois. I am one of the strange animals that shops in both since my family lives right next to the Mississippi River. I don't consciously do a detailed count of how much I spend on groceries in both states, but this survey feels accurate. Since the small Missouri town we live in doesn't have a lot of grocery options, I find myself picking up food in Illinois after my work and it does hit my wallet harder doing it that way. Still, the cost of food seems to be going up everywhere, so how can a family win? Answer - good luck figuring out that equation these days.
