Video Shows Humongous Meteor Zoom Over Illinois and Then Explode
It was only visible for a few seconds, but if you were looking up at the night sky in Illinois early Friday, you were given a treat. A humongous meteor zoomed over Illinois and then exploded and it was captured on a security camera.
According to the American Meteor Society, this fireball was witnessed by many over Illinois during the early morning hours of Friday just after midnight at 12:17am.
This meteor was first spotted over Champaign, Illinois as it zoomed over Lake Michigan and disintegrated. This video was captured in Frankfort, Illinois which is south of Chicago.
This fireball was big and bright enough that it was also reported spotted in Indiana, Michigan and Ohio in addition to several reports from Illinois.

The skies of Illinois are currently enjoying the Taurid meteor shower which is a common November event. What's interesting is the southern Taurid meteor shower just peaked this past Tuesday while the current northern Taurid meteor shower will peak on Tuesday, November 12.
