Honor Flights Postponed Over Virus Fears
The Great River Honor Flight which serves our area has suspended its first two flights of the season because of the corona virus. The Board of the GRHF announced on its Facebook page that the flights for veterans that were originally scheduled for April and May have been rescheduled for June. That is subject to change as well, depending on how the virus plays out. The schedule will be posted on the website https://www.honorflight.org/
The mission of the nation-wide Honor Flight program is to transport veterans to Washington, D.C. to visit the memorials dedicated to honoring those who have served and sacrificed for our country. The veterans are mostly senior citizens who are more susceptible to covid-19 and other illness.
Since the Great River Honor Flight was established in our region in 2009, nearly 2000 veterans and their sponsors have made the trip.
