Both the Quincy Gems and the Hannibal Cavemen are playing on the road. For the Cavemen they return home Tuesday to meet Springfield. The next home game for the Gems is Wednesday when they host the Cavemen.   As you watch those games this week, think about the rules of this great game.Oh, some of the rules have changed but for the most part they have stayed consistent. The last major on field rule change in baseball that I can recall (other than instant replay) was the Designated Hitter rule in the American League and that was back in 1973.

This date is filled with historical significance for baseball. The actual rules of the game of baseball were established on this date back in 1839. Also on this day in 1939, the Baseball Hall of Fame was dedicated in Cooperstown, New York. On this day in 1974, Little League Baseball announced that they would begin accepting girls to play on little league teams. And it was this day, 35 years ago in 1981, that Major League Baseball players began a 49 day strike.

The only strike in baseball these days is the one umpires are calling.  Get out there and root on the Cavemen or the Gems this season and enjoy every moment of one great game...Baseball.
