Sources Say St. Louis Cardinals Will Deal with Management Monday
If you're curious about how the St. Louis Cardinals might make changes with their management, you may not have to wait long as a team report says decisions could be made as early as Monday, September 30.
UPDATE: MLB Trade Rumors is now reporting that the St. Louis Cardinals will have press conference Monday morning.
ORIGINAL STORY: The sources are not some opinion of a random blogger, but directly from the St. Louis Cardinals official website. It appears to be based off of a report from MLB reporter John Denton's newsletter which says the following:
"The Cardinals are expected to address Mozeliak's situation and other matters soon after the season ends, perhaps as early as Monday, a source told MLB.com."
Let's not read too much into this just yet. It's common for a team to have a meeting between the President of Baseball Operations and the manager after a season is complete to assess what went right and wrong and ways they can improve the team. In this case, it could also involve owner Bill Dewitt and that would indicate that bigger changes are afoot.
There are lots of possibilities of how the Cardinals could move forward. John Mozeliak could shift from his position as President of Baseball Operations to an advisory role. He does have one more year left on his contract. Oli Marmol's contract isn't up yet, but he could be replaced. The Cardinals could also leave the current management team where they are and decide to move players in trades to rebuild around the younger core that has begun to establish itself like Masyn Winn.
There's no way to read Bill Dewitt's mind, but it's entirely possible he could remove all of the current Cardinals front office and coaching staff. The fact that the team failed to reach the 3 million attendance mark this season for the first time in 18 years could be enough to make that happen.
Time will tell what the St. Louis Cardinals do to get on track next season, but if reports are accurate, we may find out soon.
