After spending much of the spring and summer sitting idle, the Admiral Coontz Recreation Center on Warren Barrett Drive in Hannibal will reopen to the public on Tuesday, Sept. 1.  The hours are from 7:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and until 5:00 p.m. on Fridays. It's available to rent on weekends.

With the opening of the old armory, many events that have been put on hold for months are now back up and running.  The Rec Center is used nightly for sports practices, archery, pickleball leagues, horseshoes and other activities. The walking track is also popular, especially in bad weather.

The Parks and Rec Department https is also bringing back Senior Adult Dances starting Sept. 2. The dances feature the music of Uptown Strings from noon-3:00 p.m. every Wednesday. This is a tradition that's been going on now for 45 years.

The Play Without Boundaries Sensory Room at the Rec Center will remain closed for the time being.
