Another round of flooding has forced another closure of the Admiral Coontz Recreation Center in Hannibal.

The Hannibal Parks and Recreation Department re-opened the building just a week ago.  It had been closed about a month.  The latest flood predictions show water will once again surround the building by Wed., May 1.  The Rec Center will remain closed until further notice.

In local parlance, the Admiral Coontz Recreation is known as the old armory.  Because the building stored weapons and military equipment back in the day, it's a durable structure made of thick concrete.  When the river makes its way inside, the Hannibal Fire Department can come in and wash the muck away with fire hoses.

Parks and Rec employees have to relocate the tables and chairs.  All other equipment is moved up to the second floor.
