It happens every spring. Time to get out of the house and get fit! You can do this. The Hannibal Parks and Recreation will get you in shape before you know it. They have many ways to get you moving into spring and summer.

Summer sand volleyball is always a good workout and you can sign up for it now. It begins May 19 for co-ed 6v6 recreational leagues on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the South Side Recreation Area Number 1 above Missouri 79.

The Huckleberry Park Ramp Park is also now open for the season from 3:45 p.m. to dark weekdays, and noon to dark on weekends, weather permitting. Roller skates, roller blades, skateboards, bicycles and scooters are allowed.

Because of storms on its original date, the Color in Motion Colorful 5K walk/run was rescheduled. It is now starting at 9 a.m. June 20 at Admiral Coontz Recreation Center. The cost is Youth (0-12) $15; Adult $25. Sign up as a team (5 or more) and save $5 per entry. Sign up on www.Active.com by June 5 to be assured t-shirt size.

Pickleball is becoming popular in both Hannibal and Quincy. Open play designated times are 3:30-5:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Admiral Coontz Recreation Center.

There is an opportunity to play basketball at the Admiral Coontz Recreation Center. Open play designated times 3:30-5:30 p.m. Mondays and 3:30-5 p.m. Fridays

Admiral Coontz Recreation Center is open for walkers. 12 laps around the center is equal to 1 mile. The Center is open from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. It is free to walk.

The Huckleberry Park 18-hole disc golf course is open during daytime hours. Discs and frisbees can be used and it is free to play.

If swimming is more your thing, the Hannibal Aquatics Center will open before you know it. Their first day of operation is May 30.

This probably won't keep you fit, but it's a lot of fun for families. "Movies in the Park" are back with the showing of Big Hero 6 at 9 p.m. at Huckleberry Park on May 29. Before the movie you can watch a live demonstration of the Marion County 4-H robot team.
