Fun Story of How a Tiny Missouri Town Got Surrounded by Buffalo
This is one of the many reasons I love living in Missouri. You just never know when you're gonna wake up, look out your windows and see an unbelievable sight. That's what just happened to a tiny Missouri town that suddenly realized they were overtaken by buffalo.
Big congratulations to KY3 out of Springfield for this (buffalo) catch. They just documented how the tiny town of Pleasant Hope, Missouri ended up in a dilemma. According to their fine reporting, they say that rancher Cassidy Laney was transporting a herd of bison when a problem developed.
Once the transport vehicle stopped, 7 bison/buffalo mamas and calves took off. For what it's worth, this is what a bison stampede looks like in Yellowstone. It's fun and terrifying at the same time.
My absolute favorite part of the KY3 report was this quote from Cassidy Laney:
“It felt like Jurassic Park,” Laney said of seeing the bison on the loose. “Like Velociraptors running past you."
Never underestimate a Missourian's ability to capture a fun moment like this with a classic line.
Let me add my own experiences to this. My family has visited Yellowstone National Park twice in our lifetime and bison are magnificent and intimidating animals. I've witnessed two bison bulls fighting along the side of the road and you don't want to be near that fury.
Fortunately, this story has a happy ending as it appears that Laney's neighbors in Pleasant Hope, Missouri helped round up these wonderful creatures. What's not to love about a Missouri community coming to the aid of one of their own. Well done, Pleasant Hope.
