Quincy's Log Cabin Village In The Running for $5,000 Prize

One of Quincy’s finest treasures is the Log Cabin Village on Quinsippi Island. It is here where you'll find six Lincoln-era log cabins that have been refurbished by volunteers. Those volunteers have donated their time and efforts to make the Village what it is today. As you can probably imagine, it's not cheap to pay for the upkeep on these cabins. As a result, one of the volunteers (and accomplished author), Joe Newkirk submitted an essay entitled “Gems of Optimism and Awareness” into a national essay contest sponsored by Shelter Insurance. According to a release, the top vote-getter will receive $5000 cash which Joe will donate to the Friends of the Log Cabin Association. The voting period ends April 6, so please vote for Joe’s essay and ask others to do so as well.

The Friends of the Log Cabin Association is hoping to raise $40,000 to re-erect the 1828 Fraser Log Cabin (see picture above). The 1828 Fraser Log Cabin was originally a stagecoach stop on the way to Ursa. Due to advance deterioration, the Fraser Log Cabin had to be disassembled last year.
