A fun holiday tradition many families look forward to each year is going out to a farm to choose and cut their own Christmas trees. Most farms that provide choose-and-cut Christmas trees have traditionally offered a hayride, hot chocolate and cookies for their customers, which makes the experience even more special, but it seems like it is getting harder and harder to find these types of places.

Frese Ornamental Nursery in Quincy has provided choose-and-cut trees in the past, but because of the drought they will not be able to offer them in 2013. They do have pre-cut trees for sale, in addition to live trees.

Matthews Christmas Trees and Wreaths in Liberty is open for the season, however, most of their choose-and-cut trees have matured out. There are a few available, but they are somewhat on the large size. Matthews says that they have a good selection of pre-cut trees this year, and a number of trees that are still growing, which will be available for choose-and-cut in coming seasons.

The Branch Ranch in Palmyra says that their supply is good. The drought hurt their new plants, but the older trees survived very well. In addition to choose-and-cut, The Branch Ranch supplements their home-grown trees with fresh-cut Frazier Firs, and they have plenty of trees available.
