Ameren Illinois Names Quincy a Most Progressive City

The City of Quincy has been selected, for the third consecutive year, by Ameren Illinois as a Most Progressive City.  Quincy was selected in part based on the significant energy savings achieved by local businesses and residents over the last year.  This marks the first time residential energy savings have been factored into the award selection.

“We are honored to be named an Ameren Illinois Most Progressive City.  This award is a reminder of the impact everyday citizens can make in improving their community.  I want to thank Ameren Illinois for this recognition, and for being a great partner in energy efficiency,” said Mayor Kyle A. Moore.

Between June 1, 2014 and May 31, 2015 Quincy business and residential customers completed 388 energy efficiency projects through Ameren Illinois’ program.  As a result, Quincy businesses and residents are saving nearly 2.3 million kilowatt-hours of electricity and more than 8,900 therms of natural gas every year.  That is the equivalent to removing more than 3.6 million pounds of CO2 from the atmosphere or removing approximately 325 cars from the road.

“The Most Progressive City Award is our way of recognizing those communities that exemplify a strong commitment to environmental stewardship,” said Richard Mark, the president of Ameren Illinois.  “By taking advantage of Ameren Illinois’ energy efficiency programs, these communities are reducing their impact on the environment, increasing their energy savings and improving their economic competitiveness.”

The public recognition ceremony was held on yesterday at Quincy City Hall where representatives from Ameren Illinois officially presented the award.
