According to an article from, Lincoln College (which is named after Abraham Lincoln) in Illinois will close its doors on May 13th after 157 years of higher learning. The school is a small school located in Lincoln, Illinois has a small enrollment of about 1,000 students, but according to the article was on pace for record enrollment when the pandemic hit in 2020, in the article they go on to say...

"the college “was a victim of a cyberattack in December 2021 that thwarted admissions activities and hindered access to all institutional data, creating an unclear picture of fall 2022 enrollment projections..."

The combination of COVID-19 and the cyberattack has proven too much for the historic small institution. If you check out the school's page you'll find that even though Lincoln College is a small school it has produced some big-time alumni including the current Manager of the Atlanta Braves and World Series winner Brian Snitker, UFC Hall of Famer Matt Hughes, and Bruce Block who is a Hollywood producer and director who directed The (the 2000s) Parent Trap, What Women Want, and The Holiday.

We saw so many businesses close during the COVID-19 pandemic and even though it feels like we are through the worst of the pandemic (fingers crossed) I fear the closure of Lincoln College isn't going to be the last thing to close due to the pandemic, the Lincoln College story tells me that so many businesses are still walking a thin line if they made it through the pandemic and something like a cyberattack can be the thing that knocks them off the line. Sad to see.
