We knew that Sunday would be a stormy day in Missouri, but very few expected the wind speeds that have now been confirmed. There were at least 5 Missouri locations that were impacted by nearly hurricane-force winds Sunday.

As severe storms blew up across Missouri Sunday afternoon, NOAA's Storm Prediction Center reports began to confirm that terrible winds were creating damage across the state. Many of these locations had massive power outages with some downed trees damaging homes. In case you're not familiar, sustained wind speeds of 75 mph or greater are considered hurricane-strength.

Storm chasers near Mountain Grove, Missouri captured video as they also described hurricane-force winds.

Fortunately, there have been no serious injuries reported in Missouri from severe storms that slammed the state Sunday afternoon and early evening. There were many tornado warnings issued as well, but we'll have to wait for the National Weather Service survey teams to verify damage to give us the final total of confirmed twisters.
