This sadly will not come as a surprise for many, but two of America's worst hotspots for deadly police incidents are in Missouri and the numbers prove there are real problems here.

I love being a messenger for good news, but I'm also a realist. I dislike false narratives designed to just tell one side of a story. This isn't that. It's raw data that points to two metros in Missouri that have troubling issues with violent police incidents which was just shared by 24/7 Wall St.

Before we dig into the numbers, I want to be clear that I have always and will always support law enforcement. I have many friends and family members that either have been or currently are Missouri deputies, detectives, and county sheriffs. They are among the most honorable people I know. This is not about them or those who serve and protect honorably.

Kansas City, Missouri is ranked as the 39th worst place in America for violent police incidents.

  • Race/ethnicity of those killed: 21.1% White, 57.9% Black, 0.0% Hispanic, 0.0% Native American, 0.0% Asian
  • Those killed with signs of a mental illness: 10.5%
  • Those killed who were unarmed: 5.3%

St. Louis, Missouri ranked as the 21st worst place in America for violent police incidents:

  • Documented police killings, Jan. 2020 – Oct. 2024: 5.4 per 100,000 people (16 total)
  • Gender of those killed: 87.5% male, 12.5% female

  • Those killed with signs of a mental illness: 18.8%

It's easy to judge a police officer that decides to pull the trigger which takes a life, but what would you do if you were in their shoes having to make a snap decision with someone who's threatening you and/or the public? Be thankful if you never have to make that call. There's a reason why many police officers and first responders deal with chronic PTSD issues. This is not a career for the faint of heart. While these numbers are sad for Missouri, it's tragic for everyone including the officers involved.
