Sunday will mark the 100th anniversary of the end of World War One. With it will come ceremonies all over our great country. One of them will take place at Lippincott Hall at the Illinois Veteran's Home.  The ceremony will take place as 10 a.m. and will end at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. That was the exact time the armistice took place to end "the war to end all wars", a statement made by H.G. Wells which unfortunately turned out to be not true as many conflicts have taken place since then.

Sunday's program at the Veteran's Home in Quincy will feature Colonel Joe Schweickert as the featured speaker. Colonel Schweickert is the Chief of Staff for the Illinois Army National Guard.

During the ceremony there will be a variety pf patriotic musical selections performed by the Quincy Notre Dame High School Band under the direction of Mrs. Jill Steinkamp.  The American Legion Post #37 Firing Squad and Ms. Beth Young performing Taps will also be a part of the program. I am also very honored to again be asked to be the Master of Ceremonies for the indoor event which is open to all people and ages in the area to honor our Veterans.

Prior to the start of the program the Tri-State Lugnuts will present the Veteran's Home with a check for nearly $5,400 dollars with the monies raised through their Endless Summer Car Shows.
