Undefeated 1981 Hannibal Pirate Football Team Having a Reunion

Many would argue that the 1981 Hannibal Pirate football team was one of the best this area has ever seen. That team is getting together again in October to celebrate that undefeated 9-0 season.

Michael Vannatta and Blane Mundle were kind enough to share info about what the plans are for October 15, 2021 for that beloved class of 1981. This isn't just for players. It's for many in the Hannibal community that were in the stands for the games, too. Check out the post on Facebook with info copied below:

Once a Pirate, Always a Pirate
We are having a reunion of the 40th Anniversary of the Undefeated 1981 Hannibal High School Football team. We would like all players, and those that were in the stands, to join us. I have limited resources on Facebook for people, so it would be helpful to pass the word. Class reunion pages, Linkedin, etc.
When
Date: October 15th Senior Night (also weekend of Folk Life Festival)
Where: Porter Stadium
Time: Meet in parking lot between field and school at 6 PM, Game at 7PM
Opponent: Marshall Owls – By the way, listened to game against Helias the other night, Hannibal is good
Post festivities to be determined.
We will have shirts and sweatshirt available for purchase. And we will have them big enough for the “Hoggies” as Coach Nesbitt called the linemen.

If you look at the Missouri State High School Athletic Association rankings for the 1981 season, you won't see Hannibal listed as the parameters for how teams made the state playoffs were very different back in those days. Those that were there for the 1979 and 1981 teams will tell you that they could play with (and likely beat soundly) any teams they came up against. The 40th reunion on October 15th will celebrate that great era for Hannibal Pirate football.
