Tri-State Mom Takes A Stand On Valentine’s Day Boxes
It's that time of year. Love is in the air. With that comes lots of Valentine's Day school activities, which also means the dreaded Valentine's Day boxes.
I received the letter in my daughter's book bag to start working on a Valentine's Day box, and I thought it would be easy.
Step 1 - Check Pinterest: (what would we do without Pinterest?) WHAT WAS I THINKING!!?? My daughter wants to make every princess castle, Minion, My Little Pony, and Trolls Valentine's Day Box. We must have pinned 100 boxes. These things are more elaborate and detailed than a Picasso painting. Now there ARE simple ones, but which parent wants to send their kid to school with a "simple" Valentine's Day box?
Step 2 - Get Supplies: I am not a very crafty person, so off to the craft store we go. Glitter, stickers, wrapping paper, glue, markers and $25 later we are ready to assemble the box.
Step 3 - Put Box Together: We have the supplies and the instructions and it's now time to attempt to make the box look like the Pinterest picture. Two hours later, after much laughing (and some crying), we now have a mess bigger than the the state of Texas. But the Valentine's Day box is complete. It may not be a Picasso, but for me, and most importantly my daughter, it was good enough. Sorry no pictures, I didn't want to embarrass my daughter TOO much.
I think maybe next year, I'll take the advise of Jenna Rubison-Begley of Shelbina. In what's become an annual tradition, Jenna says what we're all thinking when it comes to the dreaded Valentine's Day boxes.
