The word "hero" gets overused these days, but this man truly deserves that honor. This Missouri man saved two young boys who were struggling in Lake Michigan before he drowned himself.

The Racine County Sheriff's Office shared the brave story of Thomas J. Walker on their Facebook page.

KCRG is reporting that Thomas was related to the two boys he rescued. They quoted his family who praised him for his honor and kindness:

He was a kind soul and an amazing uncle to his niece and nephews. And how we lost him is a testament to how great an uncle and all-around guy he was. [We] never met a person who didn't like him. He is missed greatly.

The Racine County Sheriff's Office also shared video of a dangerous area of Lake Michigan which has claimed 3 lives recently.

The Journal Times is reporting that emergency crews found his body at approximately 4:01 pm, but were unable to resuscitate him. There's no mention of what city Thomas and his family lived in, just that he was from Missouri.
