Friday is Military Appreciation Night at the ballpark as the Quincy Gems play host to the Military All-Stars at Q.U. Stadium. The Military All-Star team was founded by President George H. Bush to promote the Wounded Warrior Program in the United States.

The team travels around the country and is making a stop in Quincy after being rained out last year. They have played exhibition games against the New York Yankees, the Boston Red Sox, the Los Angeles Dodgers and the San Diego Padres.

During Friday's pregame activities , which start at 6 p.m., there will be a tribute to the local veterans and organizations which will lead up to a presentation to a local hero, serviceman Jeremiah Homuth from Macomb. Also, the U.S Army will be swearing in new recruits prior to the game at approximately 6:55.

The opening pitch is set for 7 p.m. with fireworks scheduled after the game. The night is sponsored by Cell Tech and Mercantile Bank.
