Only In Your State believes that Montauk State Park in Salem is one of the most unforgettable places you'll find in Missouri and I don't think they're wrong. Ask any fisherman and they'll likely tell you a story of rainbow trout they've caught there. The fact that local wildlife are visible frequently nearby doesn't hurt either. Oh, and the waterfalls...

I think my favorite part of Montauk State Park is the accessibility. You don't have to be a seasoned outdoorsman who can hike 20 miles to enjoy it. If there's a downside it's that it's frequently pretty busy especially during the warm weather months.

If you do road trip there, make sure to visit the mill which dates back to 1896. This part of Missouri does not lack history.

More good news as Montauk State Park is less than a 4 hour drive down 61. Once you get done enduring St. Louis traffic, the rest of the drive there is some of the most scenic sights in the state of Missouri.
