I've been in and through the St. Louis, Missouri airport many times in my lifetime, but I've fortunately never experienced what everyone in those terminals did on this day 13 years ago when monster tornadoes devasted the St. Louis area including a direct hit on the airport.
Tomorrow the next mission of the Great River Honor Flight program will head to Washington DC. This will be the 31st mission overall since the program started back in 2010 and will bring the total number of local veterans who have flown to Washington, D.C. for free to 967. This is also the first trip where every veteran going is from the Vietnam era.
If you have flown recently you know the process of getting screened at the airport. It's a evil necessity, unfortunately. What it does is take extra time and subjects everyone to a search and sometimes a full body scan prior to boarding the aircraft.
