Wes Leffert from Quincy is a Y101 Rewards member who has just won the Take Me Out to the Ballgame contest! You want to know something really great about this whole thing? Wes is a lifelong Cardinal fan, but he's never been to a professional baseball game!

Mattingly Romanin has become a well-known figure on the baseball diamond. Unfortunately for him, it took a kick in the head from a wayward skydiver to become a household name.

Local baseball fans are getting ready for opening day. Unfortunately, both the Quincy Gems and the Hannibal Cavemen will open their seasons on the road on May 28, but both teams will have home games the following night. Quincy will host Springfield, and Hannibal will be visited by Danville. The Gems and Cavemen will not face one another until June 3.

During a recent Class A minor league baseball game between the Daytona Cubs and the Fort Myers Miracles, public address announcer Derek Dye decided to have some fun with the umpires. Bad idea.

Last night, over at QU stadium, it was Y101 night at the ballpark and the Quincy Gems put on a great show.

Opening night at QU Stadium was nearly as perfect as it gets.

I will be involved this Saturday, along with Dennis Oliver, in the 3rd Annual Wild Game Cook Off at the Ridge View Winery in Mt. Sterling, Illinois.  They will be cooking things like Squirrel in a Crock Pot, Beaver Burgers, Elk Roast, Turtle Stew, Deer Sausage, and God knows what else. It got me to thinking about the Pioneer days when people actually ate those foods on a daily basis.
