Earthquakes are so common in southern Missouri that many times I won't even notice when a new one occurs. Two tremors did catch my eye that happened Friday morning in the Missouri boot heel as they happened only 12 minutes apart.

This was what I saw the USGS share regarding southern Missouri earthquakes Friday

The first quake happened at 3:08am on Friday, November 21, 2025 while the second tremor happened only a dozen minutes later at 3:20am according to the USGS.

But, wait, there's more...

Only 37 minutes after the first two small Missouri quakes, there was another earthquake in the region with north-central Arkansas also reporting a 2.0 magnitude shaker.

What do this trio of earthquakes mean to the New Madrid Fault region?

While it's an interesting frequency of 3 earthquakes in the span of less than an hour, it's not really anything to be alarmed about at this point. There are around a half-dozen New Madrid quakes every week. This just happens to be a sudden uptick of activity. Yes, it COULD mean a major event might be closer than you think, but it's also MUCH more likely that this is just an interesting mini-swarm of Friday New Madrid quakes. Or, at least that's what I'm telling myself right now.
