The long bizarre summer of 2020 will finally end today as the Autumnal Equinox arrives today (Tuesday, September) at 8:31 a.m. CDT.

So basically there are only two days when the sun crosses the equator. One is the Vernal Equinox or first day of spring and the other is the Autumnal Equinox marking the first day of autumn.

The word "equinox" is a Latin word meaning "equal night". Basically, there will be equal amounts of time for darkness of night and light of day on those two days. So fall will begin in the Northern Hemisphere and spring will start in the Southern Hemisphere at 8:31 a.m. Central time.

There is also the folklore legend that says you can balance an egg on its end because the Earth's gravitational pull is supposedly balanced equally during an equinox time period. I have never been able to do that in the few attempts I have tried over the years, but I will try it today just for fun. Try it yourself and let me know if it works. “Square” eggs are not allowed!

The Earth may be balanced, but I'm not!
