Storm Prediction Center Just Elevated Risk for Missouri Next Week
If you're not already aware that Missouri could see severe storms this coming week, you need to know now. Forecasters at NOAA's Storm Prediction Center have now put Missouri right in the middle of a region that could see severe storm development early next week.
I don't want to say that I told you so, but I told you so. Just a few days ago I mentioned that Missouri should pay attention to the possibility of strong thunderstorm development next week and, just as I suspected, the Storm Prediction Center has now expanded the advisory region to include nearly all of Missouri. Previously, the areas where meteorologists were expecting storms only included Kansas and Oklahoma. Look at what they've just updated their risk map to show for Tuesday, June 3, 2025.
Here are the exact words from the weather nerd discussion about what they're watching Tuesday:
"Where appreciable boundary-layer heating can occur ahead of morning convection, scattered severe storms are possible"
Thanks to my meteorologist wife who has forced taught me to understand weather scenarios, I know what they're saying is if it's sunny with little cloud cover and/or moisture early in the day, that heat will enable the development of strong thunderstorms. The good news is they expect them (as of the day of this writing) to be scattered and not widespread. Still, be weather aware (again) especially Tuesday, June 3 in Missouri. We could be impacted (again) by serious weather.
