I've learned never to underestimate Missouri weather's ability to surprise. Just because we're almost halfway through October does not mean we no longer have a threat of severe thunderstorms and tornadoes. The state is in the crosshairs of a strong system that will impact many in just days.

I was clued into the fact that severe weather was targeting Missouri again when I saw Ryan Hall share this alarming map showing what's possible Saturday, October 18

What this map shows is an area that NOAA's Storm Prediction Center has in an at-risk possibility for severe storms which could include tornadoes, wind and hail. I confirmed directly through the Storm Prediction Center that what Ryan has shared is accurate. They have more than half of Missouri in the advisory area for Saturday, October 18, 2025.

Ryan Hall pointed out that the reason it's believed that Missouri will see storms this coming weekend is due to a front that will move through which will be packing wind, very high dew points with moisture colliding with the front right above Missouri.

As of the date of this writing, we're still more than 5 days away from the time when this storm system is expected to impact Missouri. That means variables can and likely will change, but if it remains accurate, you can expect strong thunderstorm development in the southern half of the state to begin to blow up late Saturday afternoon carrying over into the evening hours. Yes, even in October Missouri needs to be weather and storm aware because that's what Missouri weather does.
