Safe Kids Adams County to Hold a Car Safety Seat Check

If you are a parent of a young child who uses a child safety seat there is an event you need to attend this Saturday in Quincy.

Safe Kids Adams County and the Illinois Department of Transportation’s Division of Traffic Safety urge parents and caregivers to make sure their child safety seats are properly installed. Safe Kids Adams County will be hosting a Car Seat Check on Saturday, July 28 at Quincy’s Central Fire Station at 906 Vermont.

Certified technicians will be available to provide free hands-on child safety seat inspections and advice from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.  Sometimes a seat may look to be ok, but it may be too little or has weekened with time. Experts on Saturday will be there to inspect your child seat with your child in it. If coming to the event please bring your child with you.

Safe Kids Adams County has also provided some safety seat guidelines:

Rear-Facing Seats: In the back seat from birth to the height and weight limit of the seat.

Rear-facing seats are recommended for children up to 2 years old, but at a minimum of age 1 and 20 pounds.

Forward-Facing Seats: In the back seat when the child has reached the height or weight limit of the rear-facing seat to about age 4 and 40-65 pounds.

Booster Seats: In the back seat from about age 4 to at least age 8.

Safety Belts: At age 8 and older and taller than 4’9’’.

Remember: All children younger than 13 should ride in the back seat.
