Quincy’s Veteran’s Parade is This Saturday
It is hard to believe but this Saturday the 12th Annual Veteran's Parade will be held in Quincy with nearly 80 entries ready to go down Maine Street beginning at 10 a.m. The Parade begins at 12th and Maine and ends at 5th and Maine.I remember meeting with the then parade chairmen Jim Ponsot and Dick McKinney 13 years ago to discuss putting on the first parade. We had no idea how many entries we would have but to see there are 100 entries this year is fabulous.
This year's Grand Marshall is Bill Townsend (US Navy Veteran and American Legion Commander)). The special guest of the parade is WWII Army Veteran Albert Thompson.
This year's parade will reassemble at the Illinois Veteran's Home at 1 p.m. Saturday, as they have in past years, to allow the Veterans there to see the parade as well. The Red Cross will serve a free lunch to the second parade participants at Smith Hall.
So get your family and friends together and line up Maine Street from 12th to 5th Streets at 10 a.m. Saturday and honor these brave veterans who have made it possible for our freedoms we have today. And remember to wave those flags!
