For nearly 40 years the Quincy Elks Lodge #100 has held the local "Hoop Shoot" competition for young people between the ages of 8 and 13. That event will take place again this Saturday at St. Peter's School Gymnasium.

The Elks organization works with the local public and parochial schools to encourage young people to participate.  There is competition at each of the local schools with the top performers competing this Saturday.  The event begins at 11:30 a.m. with the gymnasium doors opening at 10:30 a.m.

There are three age categories for both boys and girls. One is for 8 and 9 year-olds, another is for 10 and 11 year-olds and the last is for youngsters 12 and 13 years of age.

The local winners will advance in the Elks' "Hoop Shoot" competition to the District level, the State competition, followed by the National Regional competition and then on to the National Finals with scholarships being awarded to the winners.
