Chiefs’ Bad Start Has Missouri Fans Losing Sports Hope

I would like to file an official complaint on behalf of all Missouri sports fans. The Kansas City Chiefs woeful start to the NFL season is making me believe that our sports year is losing all hope.

Who would have guessed that the Kansas City Chiefs would be in 3rd place in the AFC West 5 games into the NFL season?

As I watched the end of the miserable Sunday night loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars thanks to numerous horrific mistakes, I could only wonder out loud if the entire sports year for Missouri fans will now officially suck. The Chiefs are now 2 and 3 which places them behind both the Broncos and the Chargers and the Chiefs have lost to the Chargers already. While it's much too early to give up on Patrick Mahomes and company, the Sunday night game this coming weekend against the Detroit Lions now feels like a must-win playoff game otherwise, we're 2 wins and 4 losses and very much behind the 8 ball when it comes to getting a good playoff seed (or getting to the playoffs at all).

Haven't Missouri sports fans been through enough already?

After the St. Louis Cardinals recorded losing seasons two out of the last three years, Missouri sports fans deserve a break. As the baseball team struggled, at least we had the always competitive Chiefs to rely on, right? Oh, wait. The Cardinals are now promising a multi-year rebuild which leaves us with a Hail Mary pass into the endzone hoping the Chiefs will turn their season around against the Lions. There is a tiny silver lining to this rain cloud, though. The Missouri Tigers football team is awesome and might just beat Alabama this weekend and I hear the St. Louis Blues will be contenders this year. As a lifelong Missouri sports fan, we can only hope.
