A postal worker tried to be a Good Samaritan when he was delivering mail on a public street in Springfield, Missouri. As a result, he was attacked and the man that struck him has now been sentenced to time in a federal prison for his crime.

The United State's Attorney's Office in the Central District of Illinois just shared details of a sentence that was just handed down by the courts. They say that a Springfield, Illinois, man, Larry French Jr., 23, was seen attacking his sister by a postal worker. The postal worker intervened and tried to call law enforcement. The attack reportedly happened in a Springfield, Illinois intersection.

After the postal carrier told Mr. French that law enforcement would be called, he assaulted the carrier through the window of his delivery vehicle resulting in injuries that will require surgery to fix. He pled guilty in September of 2024 and was sentenced on January 15, 2025 to eighteen months in federal prison, to be followed by two years of supervised release, for assaulting a United States Postal Service employee. The sentence could have been up to 20 years with a quarter million dollar fine.

The investigation into this crime was done by the United States Postal Inspection Service and the Springfield Police Department.
