Pickleball leagues are ramping up for another session in Hannibal. If you haven't played before, this is your chance, regardless of your skill.

For those unfamiliar with it, pickleball is a racquet sport that combines elements of badminton, tennis, and ping pong, played with a paddle and an oversized wiffle ball. It sounds a little wacky but I think it's the funnest game I've ever played. It's grown into quite a big deal in Hannibal in recent years.

Registration is still open for leisure, intermediate and competitive pickleball leagues beginning Nov. 12 in the Admiral Coontz Recreation Center. Games will be played Monday evenings through Dec. 10 and on Dec. 11, a Tuesday. A competitive tournament will be held on Monday. Dec. 17. There are 32 spots available and registration ends Nov. 5 or until the spots are filled. Registration is available at the Hannibal Parks & Recreation office at City Hall, 320 Broadway.

Drop-In Pickleball will be Tuesday evenings Nov. 13 through Dec. 4. Courts will be designated for competitive, intermediate and leisure players. Players are welcome to “drop in” and play games, rotating in with new opponents.

Pickleball nets are available at the Admiral Coontz Recreation Center 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. There are also pickleball courts at Norfolk & Southern Multisports Park, 621 Warren Barrett Drive; and at the Huckleberry Park tennis courts in Hannibal.
