While most of America is looking forward to the historic total solar eclipse that will cross the country in April of 2024, there's another one in October of 2023 that should be at least partially visible in both Quincy and Hannibal. Maybe.

Time and Date has interesting facts about what is known as the Annular Solar Eclipse that will take place on October 14, 2023. While the totality of the solar eclipse will only be visible from the Gulf of Mexico through the path along the Oregon coast, it will also be at least partially visible in Missouri and Illinois, too. The path of the solar eclipse shows that Hannibal and Quincy should be able to witness up to 70 to 80% totality.

For reference, the darker the orange on their map, the higher percentage of totality you'll see during the eclipse.

Here's where the "maybe" part comes in. The exact time of the annular solar eclipse based on what Time and Date shared means it should begin at Oct 14, 2023 at 15:03 UTC or about 9:03am central time. The one question we can't answer now obviously is what the weather will be that day. That's the big "maybe".

It was only a few months ago that many in different parts of the world witnessed one of these partial solar eclipses.

The good news is there's no way this event will be postponed. There WILL be a solar eclipse starting at 9:03 am central time on October 14, 2023. The only question will be whether the skies are clear so we can witness it.
