Credit to Space.com who first shared the story about the Asteroid Launcher app. It allows you to determine the composition (do you want iron, stone or something else?), size, launch angle and speed of the object. Then, you choose a location and boom. For giggles, I launched a one-mile wide iron asteroid at the Quincy/Hannibal area and this is the size of the crater.

If you think that's fun, you should see how far the fireball from that asteroid impact extends. Pretty much everyone in the Midwest is vaporized.

The pressure from the blast would level every building from the bootheel of Missouri to Chicago. Wind speed would exceed 200 mph in every direction which means if you survived the initial impact and fireball, you'd face straight-line category 5 hurricane winds. That would severely mess your hair up.

But wait, there's more. The impact of the asteroid would also cause a greater than 6.0 earthquake and that's just the asteroid and doesn't even mention what the New Madrid Fault might do.

If you'd like to try this yourself, you can launch any kind of space rock you want through the Asteroid Launcher website. NOTE: I had a hard time getting this to work on my laptop, but it worked perfect on my phone.
