NCAA is Punishing the Wrong People

I was watching the announcement by the NCAA's Mark Emmert about the sanctions imposed by the NCAA against Penn State University as fallout from the Jerry Sandusky sex abuse scandal. First the removal of the Joe Paterno statue and then the NCAA sanctions. It is a shame that for all the good Joe Paterno did, he made a huge mistake that has cost him and his legacy. It's almost like Jerry Sandusky got off easier than Paterno did and it was Sandusky that did all this to start with. The sanctions are stiff including a $60 million fine and the loss of all victories from 1998 to 2011 which wipes out Paterno from the top spot as far as being the all-time winningest coach. I have no problem with those sanctions.  I do have a problem with the other sanctions which include a 4 year ban from post season bowl games, the loss of 20 scholarships per year for four years and five year's probation. The loss of potential bowl games, the scholarship losses and the probation directly affect the current players at the school. These are players who had absolutely nothing to do with this situation Sandusky created. Why are they being penalized? A young man works hard in high school and gets accepted at Penn State to play football and now has to face this?  It's not right. Oh sure, the players are allowed to transfer immediately if they want to and some will, but why put them through this when they are innocent individuals in this horrible crime. It's funny when I talked about this to my friends,  they all had differing opinions. Some said they deserved what they got.   Others said, they should have gotten the "death penalty" from the NCAA.  Nobody mentioned these poor kids who are now in limbo through no fault of their own. Such a sad situation.  One that never should have happened if some people would have have just said or done something.
