What is Cyclosporiasis anyway?

This parasite is connected to fresh produce like lettuce and snow peas. The tricky thing about this bug is you might now see any problems for up to 2 weeks.

What happens if I get this bug?

The CDC describes the experience like this:

People typically experience watery diarrhea. They may also experience loss of appetite, cramping, bloating, increased gas, nausea, and fatigue.

This can lead to severe dehydration which is where the hospitalizations come in. To be clear, the CDC says that 30 have been hospitalized so far, but they haven't indicated how many specifically have happened in Illinois.

The bottom line is be aware that this stomach parasite is in Illinois, so beware the fresh produce in the coming weeks.
