Be wrong. That's my hope for a new forecast for the upcoming winter in Missouri for 2023/2024. The prediction calls for Missouri to be blasted by a big polar vortex and multiple arctic blasts.

I saw this new look at the upcoming winter for Missouri and the Midwest in general by the YouTube channel Direct Weather. They shared multiple predictions about what we can expect once the cold weather months get here. It includes well below average temperatures.

The reason for this change is due to the expectation now that there will be conditions ruled by an El Niño as confirmed by NOAA's Climate Prediction Center. For Missouri, that means that multiple arctic blasts will likely impact the middle Midwest including polar vortex conditions.

The alarming thing is that the website Open Snow just days ago showed data indicating the El Niño is strengthening. It's worth noting that this does not necessarily mean that Missouri will receive greater than average snowfall. It just means that bitterly cold conditions and winds are more common.

But wait, there's more

Open Snow mentioned something that is good to keep in mind. First of all, it's not easy to predict whether El Niño conditions will strengthen or weaken. It's also impossible to know exactly how the atmosphere will respond if those conditions persist. Bottom line? It's hard to predict the weather. It's just worth sharing as a word of warning that Missouri's upcoming winter could be a bitterly cold one.
