If you're the type of person who prefers to shop with cash, then you'll want to know about some big changes that have silently begun to happen in the big retail stores. Multiple reports say there are some types of cash that are no longer accepted by Missouri Walmart and Target stores.

I know there will come a day when the world will be cashless. Don't ask me how I know. This isn't quite that - yet. I saw multiple reports from AS and The Diary 24 saying that the feds have given directions to the major retailers that they are no longer to accept certain cash bills and that includes Missouri Target and Walmart stores.

I've seen some sharing these stories as evidence that all cash is no longer any good at these places and that is absolutely NOT true. Here's what's going on:

The Secret Service, the Bureau of Engraving, and the Advanced Counterfeit Deterrence steering committee have now issued strict rules on stores like Missouri Walmart and Target locations about what they refer to as mutilated currency.

What is mutilated currency?

I went directly to the United States Bureau of Engraving for the definition of what cash is not being accepted and here is their word for word explanation. They say it's "currency which has been damaged to the extent that one-half or less of the original note remains, or its condition is such that its value is questionable". Any currency that looks like it's been damaged by fire, water or extreme degradation will not be accepted. That's it.

No, the stores in Missouri are not being made to go cashless - yet. Don't panic, but be prepared to have your torn bills not be accepted any more.
