Unwanted Gift in Missouri? Walmart Changes Return Policy
Let's pretend that I learned about Walmart's updated return policy for holiday gifts on purpose. The truth is I found out about the new timing and rules by accident, but I can direct you to the word directly from the horse's mouth about how long you have if you get a gift you don't want in Missouri.
Here's what happened. I needed a laptop for gaming work, but I didn't have a big budget to get one so I targeted a nice gaming work laptop during the Black Friday sales at a Walmart in Missouri. When the cashier gave me my receipt, I noticed a detail at the bottom I didn't expect. It was a much longer return window than I was used to seeing for Walmart stuff. Normally for electronics, you have 30 days as long as you have your receipt and the item hasn't been damaged by you. This return date was much further out than I typically see.
What is the new Walmart return policy for the holidays?
Instead of asking you to take my word for it (never a good idea), you can look at the official Walmart return policy for yourself. Here's what it says word for word:
"Extended holiday returns - Most items purchased in-store or online from October 1 through December 31 are returnable until January 31, 2026"
Here's something key to remember. First, this applies mainly to things you buy directly from Walmart and not the independent sellers that are sometimes featured on their website. Those places MIGHT honor that extended return, but I wouldn't count on it if I were you. You also need to know that there are different return policies depending on what kind of item you bought. Wireless phones and major appliances are definitely different and have shorter return times, for example.
Overall I think this new longer return window will be helpful to many that may end up with something that will be less useful or wanted than originally thought. I'm not endorsing shopping at big box stores over local mom and pop shops, but it's a fact of life that many rely on the sometimes lower prices of the big chains.
